Kjars Honored along with Judy Wagoner

Pam & DeanOver the past 11 years Donna Moyer has awarded a Community Builder Award to recognize a person or organization who has contributed to build a stronger and more vibrant Wood River area
The changes occurring almost daily in our small towns and large cities cannot be denied. Size and numbers are favorable, but and sometimes a hazard to each other, but one factor, quality, which resulted from the public’s endorsement of the Wood River Community Centennial Foundation some thirty years ago.
Life in this rural and city community is a cooperative effort, the object being the quality improvements which bind us together. Both possess and share businesses, agricultural development, lovely homes, schools, parks, teams, kids, social events, churches and people. Thirty-one years ago the Wood River Centennial Foundation was formed as a cooperative effort to bring benefits to all through donated wealth. By listening to the heartbeats of our people,
“The Foundation has earned the community’s trust, the trust which has garnered funds enabling the distri-bution of over $495,500.00 (as of November, 1, 2015) of value called grants. This is value to a community to which only a few towns have such an organization. The annual community builder gift to the Foundation for 2015 was made to honor Dean and Pam Kjar whose efforts have helped build a stronger and more valuable Wood River area.
Dean and Pam, with daughters Beth and Laura, moved to Wood River in 1992. They opened Double D Plumbing and Heating Inc. in May of that year. Dean is a member of the Regional Planning, Commission, and serves on the Wood River Board of Trust. Pam is currently a board member of Wood River Vision 20/20 and Wood River Housing Authority. Both are members of the community choir and currently active in. the music ministry for St. Mary’s Church. Past involvements include volunteer coaching of youth sports, board member of the Wood River Community Club, teaching CCD classes at. St. Mary’s, and a representative on the Nebraska Commission of the Deaf and Hearing.
Pam and Dean enjoy the time they contribute to Wood River Vision 20/20 projects. They both played an important active role in the development of the walkway landscaping and the gazebo on Main Street.
They stated many helped on the landscaping project and that it was nice to see a group of individuals work for the betterment of the community.
The gift created a “Named Fund” which Dean and Pam will designate the use of the funds. Pam and Dean’s leadership and work in building a stronger and more valuable quality community is greatly appreciated.
Donna also made a gift to recognize the work that Judy Wagoner does as Executive Secretary for the Wood River Community Foundation. Judy was part of the original group in the formation of the foundation and has played an active role in its growth and development.
