Wood River Community Centennial Foundation keeps the school and community educated and entertained
Members of the Wood River Community Centennial Foundation board recently awarded $5,000.00 to the Wood River Community Club for the annual Fun Fest.
Members of the Wood River Community Centennial Foundation Board recently awarded $1,000.00 to the Wood River FFA Chapter for their Fall Island Showdown to be held in November.
Members of the Wood River Community Centennial Foundation board recently awarded $4,795.00 to the Stick Creek Kids playground project.
At the recent meeting of the Wood River Community Centennial Foundation, grant distributions were reviewed and the new grant requests were considered and approved.
At the February meeting, a grant request for the new playground equipment for Stick Creek Kids was approved. This was funded by the earnings of the Founders Fund, $5,000.00. A request was submitted for partial funding of the installation of the new Stick Creek Kids playground equipment of $4,795.00. This request was approved with the funding from the Charles E. and Donna Moyer Endowment Fund.
The Wood River Community Club earlier submitted a grant request for $5,000.00 for the annual Fun Fest, August 8-9. This event brings families and friends together to celebrate a fun, memorable time. This request was initially approved via an email poll with the funds from the Charles E. and Donna Moyer Endowment Fund. This request and distribution was formally approved.
The Wood River Elementary second grade requested funds to attend the Nebraska State Fair. This will be the ninth year the second grade had spent the day at the fair, enjoying the farm and learning exhibits. The funds for this trip was from the Alice Dubbs Named Fund. Mrs. Dubbs was a second grade teacher at Wood River Elementary. Her family designated the fund to be used for the Wood River Elementary second grade.
The Wood River Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter submitted a grant request to support their first Fall Island Showdown. This event, November 14-15 at Fonner Park in Grand Island, will provide the FFA members with real-world experience in event planning, leadership and agricultural education, will also offer youth exhibitors across Nebraska the opportunity to participate in a professionaly-run cattle show. The request was approved to be a sponsor of the show at the Diamond Level ($1,000.00), funds from the Judy Wagoner Grand Benefactor Fund.
The Wood River TeamMates submitted a request to support this program at the local schools (beginning third grade through high school). This program (started by Tom Osborne and his wife, Nancy in 1991) plays an essential role in fostering positive relationships, encouraging academic success, and building confidence in the students via one-on-one mentorships. Funds requested for the annual dues, activities and events of $3,000.00. This request was approved with the funds from the general account.
The 2025 WRCCF Scholarships were reviewed. There was sixteen scholarships, valued at $10,350.00. These scholarships are awarded to full-time students for their freshman year, payable one-half for each semester. In their packet the recipients were directed how to receive the funds that are payable directly to the institute they attend. It will be up to the students to apply for these funds.
Finally, after review of the grants and the announcement of the Celebrate Wood River upcoming schedule (that is supported in part by the Donna Lee Moyer Fund through the Wood River Foundation), it is evident how the Wood River Community Centennial Foundation affects everyone in the Wood River community. The WRCCF is grateful for the monetary support they receive through memorial gifts, Go Big Give support, and the generous benefactors/families who have created the various funds within the Foundation to support these programs.
